This happened in the city I live in and I can tell you no one outwardly blamed the owner. The majority of people wanted to help, as did the local media. In no way was the owner ever at fault for leaving her dog in the car in January.

The story received lots of positive local media, she was on the news and in print, the dog was found and reunited with the owner. Healthy and safe.

Wonderfully written, Back yard breeders are often blamed for Flooding animal shelters. In my opinion the breeder didn't abandoned the dog, the person who " acquired the dog, pledged to love it, etc etc" is responsible for the life of the animal. The breeder didn't pay you to take the puppy! you volunteered, and probably called the breeder looking for a dog!...

also, were does a reputable breeder start? probably in their in home or back yard.. :/

ok, that's my rant, sorry!

I have been reading all of these articles to try to make the hardest choice of my life. My dog Bodye is 13 years old and have had him since he was 8 weeks old. He has had a couple of hip surgeries and has been fine and mobile. He has lived a good life and i have given him EVERYTHING. In the past month he lost his ability to walk on his own. His back legs do not function properly but seems to get around the best he can. Took him to the vet and found that he has cancer and a very large tumor. The vet says i should put him down but i cannot seem to bare to do it. Guess i am being very selfish. I just don't want to lose him. I know i need to put him down but when do i do it? He still wages his nub, licks my face, eats and drinks like a horse, and sometimes even wants to try and play. He is on drugs to help with the pain and it sems to help. When do you know to put him down? When do you know to end his life? I love him sooooo much!!

Yes, animal rights people do push it too far. Looks like they'd rather have dogs put down in shelters than let them have a less than 100% safe environment. It's ludicrous.

Might want to note for people that some dogs CANNOT swim, most can but some like English bulldogs, pugs, and Bassetts try but sink, can like splashing and wading, but are easily traumatized or drowned in deep water. Others that are very dense can sink at first but can learn, like some pits, so it would be hard to teach them to like it if they have sunk before. Best to check on the dog type first.

Good one Jennifer lol. Um. I'm disabled, a woman, and have, and had GSDs from working (NON show) lines, with real drives. And do Schutzhund. I don't have a problem because I *listen* to my dogs, and have a wonderful *relationship* based on mutual respect. I am in no way a pack leader. I'm their teacher and friend. I do not use hardware around their neck to communicate. Does this mean being permissive? Nope. I would suggest the Mother of Dog Whispering get a real education, and stop worshipping at the altar of a tv celeb with tiny man syndrome.
