Roland Sonnenburg

From his earliest years, Roland was always "the animal guy"-- bringing home frogs, snakes, cats, dogs, birds, etc.  His room was a constant menagerie of recuperating animals.

During the early years, Roland's family was tolerant, but their passions were elsewhere.  Roland's brother was an actor, and Hollywood permeated the house.  Many years later these two interests would come together and Roland found  himself on his first set, filming a small role in a TV series.

At 18, Roland began training his first formal obedience dog, and has never looked back. After obedience came agility, then Search and Rescue.

One of the things that really differentiated Roland from most animal trainers was the breadth and eclecticism of his interests.  Not content to do well in any one arena of dog training, Roland was driven to try them all.

If you are born to work animals in Hollywood, you know it the moment you try it.  Long hours and impossible tasks send adrenalin surging as you and your dog dig deep to find ways to make every shot perfect.  It is draining and miserable, and more fun than anything!  It is unlike other dog activities, because ANYTHING goes.  There are no artificial external limits on your creativity.  You do anything you can think of to help your dog understand what is being asked.  This leads to closer teamwork and more fun than most other dog activities!

Note: IMDB is not a perfect tool for animal trainers--many projects fail to give credit, and other projects have many trainers and it is hard to tell who did what.  However, it is a ubiquitous tool in the entertainment industry, so feel free to click here to see Roland's IMDB listing...
